Touchdown For Tots

Our Touchdown for Tots is open to both boys and girls in grades Pre-K and Kindergarten, ages 4 and 5. It's an excellent opportunity for young athletes to build their confidence and develop their football abilities in a supportive and fun environment.

  • Designed for beginners, ages 4 - 5, to learn basic football fundamentals.
  • Each week consist of warm-ups, small drills, and fun mini-games.
  • Athletes learn important all aspects of football including positions, handoffs, catching, and more.
  • Practicing new trait each week to ensure kids stay engaged.

Good Sportsmanship Traits:

  • Each week, there will be a new character trait to focus on during the practice, including relevant games and drills. Each character trait is a small piece of learning sportsmanship and we hope this program starts to create good sports at a young age.
    • Teamwork - Players learn how to work alongside others and the importance of teamwork.
    • Encouragement - Players learn how to encourage and cheer on their teammates during practices and games.
    • Fairness - Players learn the importance of following the rules and letting everyone participate.
    • Helpfulness - Players learn how they can be helpful towards their coaches, teammates and opponents.
    • Respect - Players learn the importance of showing respect toward the coach, teammates, and officials.

The NFL Touchdown for Tots program is meticulously structured! The handbook breaks down the six-week program with comprehensive, minute-by-minute instructions on organizing practices. This ensures that young athletes stay engaged and learn the fundamentals of flag football efficiently.

How Are Teams Formed?

  1. Age Groups
    1. Age groupings also help align the physical and developmental capabilities of the players, making games more enjoyable for everyone.
  2. Skill Level
    1. Skill levels are assessed using one or more of the following methods:
      1. Player evaluations (e.g., drills or scrimmages at the start of the season).
      2. Performance from previous seasons.
      3. Feedback from coaches or league administrators.
    2. Balancing skill levels ensures that each team has a mix of beginner, intermediate, and advanced players.
  3. Buddy or Coach Requests
    1. Players can request to be paired with specific friends or placed under certain coaches.
    2. While the league strives to honor these requests, they are not guaranteed and must align with the goal of creating balanced teams.
    3. Allowing buddy or coach requests encourages social connection and boosts player morale, especially for newcomers.
  4. No Specific Order of Importance
    1. All factors (age, skill level, and requests) are weighed equally and holistically.
    2. The league does not prioritize any single factor, as the primary goal is to balance competition with player enjoyment and development.
  5. Additional Considerations
    1. New vs. Returning Players: Efforts are made to integrate new players seamlessly while respecting the dynamics of returning teams.
    2. Team Size: Rosters are kept manageable to ensure sufficient playing time for all players. (average team size to be no larger than 5 to 10)

By considering these elements collectively, the league ensures teams are both competitive and inclusive, creating a rewarding experience for players, coaches, and families.

Timeline for Team Formation

Team formation occurs 1 week after the registration deadline. No refunds are awarded once team formation occurs. Wait list will open after the registration is closed and will fill in the available openings on teams.

Volunteers / Coaches

Our Touchdown for Tots relies on volunteer parents to coach our teams! Each team can be assigned up to 2 volunteers. We encourage all parents who are interested in volunteering to sign up during the registration process. Available positions include Head Coach and Assistant Coach. No prior experience is necessary. The handbook will walk you through the simple games that go with the week’s lessons. We will provide various resources (NFL Handbook). Please note that all volunteers may not be assigned to their child's roster and must pass a background check before being assigned to a team.

Coaches are assigned to teams by prioritizing on a first-come, first-served basis, contingent upon the fulfillment of all requirements.
